Advertising Dollars Shifting Online
July 22, 2009
A report released today by Outsell Inc. said that online advertising is slated to get an additional 65 billion dollars – and the growth is slated to come at the expense of traditional media.
The fact that the shift is happening is not surprising:
- Online media is more measurable, and if done right, enables advertisers to see how their marketing dollars are working.
- Online media is beyond the web. Through media vehicles such as mobile, social networking sites, etc, advertisers are able to reach consumers in a way that is relevant to them. A 2008 IDC study found that consumers spent the most time on the Internet every week.
- With the growth in video, rich media etc., online media is optimal for branding campaigns. With the evolution of pricing models, from CPM to CPC and CPL pricing models, online media will help advertisers derive ROI for their branding campaigns as well.
